Blogging using a PDA has definite limitations. One thing dedfinitely, is the lack of speed @ no pics (they would take too long to process i think).
Towards a Post-Human Future: Dr. Frank White – Funny thing, Mike Devney asked me to critique Frank’s paper / presentation before he talked today. The questiion I was asked to address was whether he was covering ground already well trodden. And for the most part, this is true. But, once he finishes the basics, he posits three (out of admittedly many) scenarios. A spacefaring species, untetherd from the Earth, a terrestrial species arising from parental pressures for perfection, and a species arising from AI driven biological / technological / bio-technological change.
Postcapitalist Social Mechanisms – M.M. Buckner, Corey Doctorow (who just won the Sunburst Award), David Friedman, Ben Rosenbaum, Charles Strauss – Doctorow’s critiques his own idea of a reputation society, he posits that it would end up encouraging demogogurey and minimizing minority points of view. Buckner posits that there is a tension between globalsm and localism that results in a multileveled hypernetworked economy.
(and then a 20th century economic argument broke out, but was quckly quashed)
Rosenbaum posits that open-sourced creation has the possibility to out compete traditional capiitalism. Friedman points out that this is the academic model.
(Yes, much more happened, and I’ll fill it in later)
